Why I Play The Violin: Sophie Hudson

The violin is one of the most beautiful instruments to listen to. With its elegant features and sensual sounds it has become particularly popular in classical music.

The violin’s unique musical qualities has also made appearances in modern music as the high-pitched rich tones just can’t be achieved by any other instrument. Just take Gogol Bordello as an example.

This week Bring The Music asks Sophie Hudson why she plays the violin?

Pick Of The Week: Butcher Babies

Now the prospect of a Playboy girl in a heavy metal band wearing nothing but a short skirt and nipple tape is a fantasy many men may have. Of course this will always stay as just a fantasy… or will it.

The self-proclaimed “leaders of slut metal” are Bring The Music’s pick of the week.

Just to warn you, extremely attractive women wearing very little may proceed – I present LA metal-heads Butcher Babies. Continue Reading »

Why I Play The Guitar: Chris Hakes

The lead guitarist is the person everyone wants to be. Singers look over and wish they could drop the mic and shred like Hendrix, bassists look at their four strings and pray for two more to magically appear, while drummers would love to trade in their sticks for picks.

Some of the most influential musicians of the modern era have been guitarists, from Jimmy Page to Slash, from Synyster Gates to B.B. King. These are the names that stick in your head over other instrument players.

Pick Of The Week: Pure Love

THE FORMER Gallows frontman once told us to crack our fucking knuckles and straighten our spines, but now the message has changed and it’s all about just having fun…

Why I Sing: Nick Wrigley Of The Weekend Retreat

The singer is the shining star that people look to when a band walks on stage. All eyes on one man, cue drumroll.

Because let’s face it, it doesn’t really matter how fantastic the band behind the frontman is. You could have Jimi Hendrix on guitar, Travis Barker on drums and Cliff Burton on bass, but if you have a vocalist like Rebecca Black you’re going nowhere.

Pick Of The Week: The Royal Cartel

After a hard day of listening to the homogenous music that poisons our ears on a day-to-day basis you may need something to break through the force field. Bring The Music’s Pick Of The Week has the cure to all of those problems, I prescribe The Royal Cartel.

The Royal Cartel are a British four piece who are bringing back the husky vocals and raging riffs of the grunge era.

Their recent win at the Marshall Ultimate Band Contest in 2011 has given them the break they deserve after beating off hundreds of hopefuls. Continue Reading »

Pick Of The Week: ME

I of course don’t mean me, but ME. And by ME I don’t mean myself but the band of course. Well I can already see this getting confusing.

But confusion aside, Bring The Music’s Pick Of The Week sees an Aussie four piece who fuse booming melodic choruses with grandioso orchestral breakdowns that create a sound that is like having your very own private orchestra in the comfort of your own house. Say hello to ME. Continue Reading »
